The below video is a recording of Chris Apgar’s posthumous award for Distinguished Service from the National HIPAA Summit this past March. Our thanks to Dr. Peter N. Grant for allowing us to post this video here.
It’s been six months now since Chris passed. I want to take this opportunity to thank our clients and friends for sticking with us as we continue to work through this difficult change. Your support means more to me than I will ever be able to express to you. Apgar and Associates continues on the path and timeline that Chris and I planned. It’s the best way I know to honor his legacy.
We’ve got some exciting news that we will be sharing with everyone in early Fall. In the meantime, I hope that everyone has a fine summer.

Julia Huddleston’s statement given at the HIPAA Summit: “I was, I am, Chris’ partner in life and in business.
Thank you for the honor that you’ve given Chris with the HIPAA Summit Distinguished Service Award.
I know how proud Chris would be to find himself as part of this group. Experts and leaders in our field. Names that we all know.
People whose thoughts and advice we look to for guidance on the path forward. What a legacy.
Because I hope that you know Chris truly valued the work that you all do in the HIPAA Privacy and Security space. He believed that personal information should remain personal unless a person chooses to share it – and really, what can be more personal than protected health information?
Chris was also an early adopter of the now common adage that “there’s no privacy without security.” And you know he so loved working with people to craft practical solutions to tricky situations.
To continue his mission, let’s move forward together- educating and guiding those who need to protect personal information.
On behalf of our family, and Chris, thank you.”
