Apgar and Associates is honored to announce that our late founder, Chris Apgar, CISSP C-CISO is the recipient of the AHIMA Triumph Award in the Influencer category. The award category, formerly known as the Literary Legacy Award, honors individuals or groups who have made significant contribution to the knowledge base of the Health Information field by contributing to an insightful recent publication, building on the enduring tradition of the Edna K. Huffman Literary Award. When AHIMA shared this information, we were so gratified by the kind comments, such as the below.
“I miss Chris. He was a great colleague and so deserving of this and other honors.”

Winners will be recognized at the AHIMA 2022 Global Conference this October. Julia Huddleston, CIPP, CIPM, CCSFP, Chris’s partner in life and work, accepts the Influencer award on his behalf.
Chris authored the McGraw-Hill Healthcare Information Technology Exam Guide chapter on the regulatory aspects of health IT, in addition to contributing to numerous peer and industry publications, and developing and delivering untold numbers of educational sessions.
As Aurae Beidler, MHA, RHIA, CHC, CHPS, fellow Health Information Management, Compliance and Privacy Professional, posted on learning of his passing, “Chris was the most humble, kind, respected, and patient man, who was my go-to expert on all things privacy and security related. We served together on the OrHIMA Board and spoke together professionally. I will miss his smile and easy-going attitude. You will be so missed, Chris!”
Our professional community has been so supportive. Thank you for honoring Chris and his contributions to health information management.
